We survived our first season of Future Lady Aviators basketball! We survived Megan having practice every Monday/Wednesday, Emily having practice every Tuesday/Thursday, and both girls having games every Saturday/Sunday from November until a few short weeks ago.
A few times the girls had their games at different locations. I only got really lost one time but that one time was bad enough for Santa to bring me a Tom Tom for Christmas!
Early in the season we realized basketball isn't either of our girls forte'. We decided we needed to bribe them!
$1 for every basket they made
.50 for every rebound THAT THEY HELD ON TO
.50 for every foul they make
Luckily we didn't have to pay out too much this year!!!
Megan has the ball.
Emily is the one with the white headband.
Emily is #23
Meg is #32
Towards the end of the season something clicked in Megan's mind and she was UNSTOPPABLE! It was amazing to watch her play and be aggressive. She made baskets, she jumped for rebounds, she made fouls! We were amazed, the other parents were amazed, her coaches were amazed! We can't wait to see her play next year!
Emily was one of the new girls on the team this year so she didn't get a ton of playing time. When she was on the floor, she was always smiling! I think she was thrilled to be part of the team with all her friends. She was the tallest on the team so she was under the basket a lot. Close to the end of the season she realized it was OK to be aggressive on the court and started jumping for rebounds! On offense she stayed under the basket. the girls would pass the ball to her and she would put it up for two! She made some and didn't make some, did great for her first season! Next season will be amazing for her!
If you would have told me back in November I would have survived the hectic schedule, I would have said you are crazy.
If you would have told me back in November I would have enjoyed the season, I would have said you are crazy.
Here it is March and I survived AND enjoyed the season (for the most part)!
Now on to the next sport....SOFTBALL!
She just needs to go watch boys play.....scares me how agressive they are sometimes. Crazy. I don't like it, but I guess it's the way it's supposed to be. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteGlad you survived, and better yet....glad you enjoyed it.
This league is very aggressive. Some of the most quiet/shy girls turn in to the opposite on the court. They wear volley ball knee pads cause they are always on the floor. Honestly, I don't blame Emily for not being aggressive when it comes to basketball, some of the girls really got hurt this seasoN!!!
