Not again…

Mother Nature is reeking havoc on us again.  Another 4-6 inches of snow again today.  Luckily today is President’s Day and the girls are off school and I am not at work!

We were able to make it to the rec. center this morning before the snow got too bad.  The girls were able to burn some energy swimming while I was able to workout!

Ron was able to leave work early to beat the bad weather so he brought home McDonald’s for our lunch!  Yum!

Now I am doing laundry and finishing up some chores.  The girls ventured to the backyard for the first time since it snowed.

All to ourselves

Woke up this morning, sun was shining, it was 10 degrees so we decided we needed to go to the sledding hill!
There were only three people there when we arrived.  It was awesome.  The other people were there for about half an hour then we had the hill to ourselves until we left!
The snow was packed down and SLICK!  Oh my goodness, we flew down the hill.  The hill was very bumpy.  Reminded us of the Moguls in the Olympics!  My bottom is going to be sore tomorrow!  Ron and Megan went down the hill together and actually went airborne
We always forget about the long walk up the hill but going down it at top speed is so worth it!
Ron played fire starter and got the fire going while the girls and I flew down the ice hill and trekked our way back up over and over!

What a wonderful way to spend Valentines Day!

Valentine’s Day Parties

Today was an exciting day for the girls!  They had their Valentine’s Day party at school!  It also happened to be pajama day.  What’s better than partying in your PJ’s at school!?!?!  Both kids had a lot of fun and ate lots of junk at their parties!!!

Megan having fun!

Since Emily is in fourth grade, she will be moving on to middle school.  This will not come as a surprise to anyone but I was teary eyed a couple of times during the party knowing this was her last elementary school party. My babies are growing up way too fast.

Snowstorm Part Trios

Not a lot to talk about right now other than SNOW!!!  We had another Winter Storm warning.  It expired at 6:00 p.m. tonight.  This round we probably received 5-6 inches.
The girls have been out of school for two days!  The excitement of having snow day has worn off.  They are definitely ready to go back to school tomorrow. I am definitely ready for spring!
Below is an article from the Dayton Daily News:

Snow total for Miami Valley above average

For all the jokes about “Snowmageddon,” the storm that’s plagued the Miami Valley since Friday, Feb. 5, falls well short of the biggest recorded snowfall.
You’d need a long memory to recall it. It dropped 18.3 inches on Dayton over two days starting Feb. 17, 1910.
So far, Dayton has recorded 13.9 inches of snow. Normal snowfall for February to date is 2.7 inches. So far this winter, 28.9 inches has fallen. Normal through Feb. 9 is 19.8.
“We’ve been in a persistent stormy pattern with a parade of disturbances across the Ohio Valley,” said Dan Hawblitzel, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Several elements merged to produce the big storms, in particular a blocking pattern in the jet stream that created access to extremely cold air, according to AccuWeather.com. A blocking pattern is when the jet stream is moving more in a “W’ pattern fluctuating widely north and south, Hawblitzel said.
The normal jet stream flows west to east, but when warm ocean air flows northward, harsh, cold air is pushed from northern Canada into the U.S. When the normal pattern gets dislodged by the warm Pacific air, storms intensify and erupt.

I know spring is right around the corner because softball sign ups are happening in Vandalia!  Can’t wait!!!  Hope everyone is staying warm!  Hopefully this will be the last post about snow for awhile!

Snowstorm Part Duex

Woke up this morning to 9-inches of snow.  I love the silence of a snow covered world!  The temperature is 25 degrees with a wind chill of 9 degrees.  Brrrr.
Earlier this morning, I shoveled the walk by our house and a path in the yard for the mailman and froze!  I also discovered Dora the Explorer gloves do NOT keep your hands warm in weather like this.
Mid-morning the neighborhood was a buzz of shovels scraping the sidewalks and snow blowers.  We went out to shovel the driveway and sidewalks and our neighbor told us not to worry about it because he has a snow blower!  We were so excited.  I felt guilty but he enjoys it so I got over it!

Emily’s job was to clear off the vehicles.

We are now inside for the day and trying to warm up.  Good day to get some cleaning and laundry done!
We are hoping to get to the sledding hill tomorrow…stay tuned!

Snowstorm Feb 2010

The meteorologists have been predicting it all week…major snowstorm was coming to the Miami Valley.  Originally it was supposed to hit around 4:30 this morning so the roads would be really crappy for rush hour traffic.  Fortunately the storm stalled overnight and everyone arrived to work and school safely!
It started snowing around noon today.  It is now 8:48 p.m. and it hasn’t stopped.  It isn’t supposed to stop snowing until noon Saturday.  We are currently at ~4-5 inches and are supposed to get 8-14 inches!
The snow is very wet and heavy!  Should make for some good sledding once the roads are cleared up!  Basketball is already canceled for the morning and we are going to presume Emily won’t be bowling either!
I am looking forward to sleeping in…it has been a very long time since we have not had to wake up for something!!!
