West Milton Pony Tail Tournament Champs!

We spent the majority of this weekend at the West Milton Ponytails Softball Tournament!

Both days were jammed packed full of games and only one game conflict a day!  Luckily the ballpark is small enough it was easy to walk back and forth between games!

Both girls had games at 9:00 on Saturday morning.  Emily had games at 12:30 and 2:30 and Megan had one at 4:15.

Sunday both girls had games at 10:00.  Emily played championship game at 12:00.  Megan played at 2:00 and championship game at 4:00.

Both girls did a great job despite the hot and humid weather!  Megan scored 1.5 home runs (yes, 1.5).  The first was due to errors on the defense but in her eyes it counted!  The second was a true ball roll to the fence HR!!!

Emily pitched in a couple of her games but pitched the entire semi-final game!  She did an awesome job, almost looked like a pro.  Now we just need to work on her batting!

On Saturday the weather was sunny and low humidity!  Perfect softball weather!  Sunday was a different story.  HOT, SUNNY and humid! By the end of the day on Sunday I was pretty much done with softball, the heat, the sun, and most people!!!

I'm not big on writing posts about myself but I have done something I never thought I would do and want to share it with everyone!

A year or so ago, I decided I wanted to be a runner.  It looks easy, relaxing, and the thought of throwing on an iPod and going for miles sounded soooooo refreshing!

Last summer I tried the Couch to 5K program on my own and didn't get very far in to it.  Over the winter I tried the treadmill at the rec center.  I did OK on it but knew running outside was totally different.

The first weeks were brutal.  There were many classes where I thought I was going to puke or fall face first down the stairs from the track because my legs were not functioning properly!

The class led up to a 5K which was the First Annual VRC Fun Run which was held on June 15.

I was able to run all but 59 seconds of of the 3.1 miles.  Right after I passed the 2 mile mark, I had the "I'm gonna puke" feeling.  I pushed through it and was able to finish in 32:24.

That night I did something I never thought I would be able to do and looking back, I am pretty darn proud of myself!

On July 3 a friend sent me a text and asked if I was running in the Vandalia Freedom 5K on July 4.  I thought we had softball games so I hadn't planned on running the 5K.  When I realized we didn't have games on the 4th, I teetered back and forth whether or not I wanted to do it.

Woke up the morning of the 4th and everyone was still sleeping so I got dressed and walked over to Helke Park and signed up for the 5K!

I also found out the first 5K I was in was NOT a true 5K. It was a tad short.  I am thinking it was only 2.8 or 2.9 miles. I was completely bummed.  Now I didn't have a time to try to beat on this 5K.

There were a lot more people running this run than the first one I ran in.  The gun went off and there I went.  About half way through the run it started to rain.  It was a nice steady rain that felt very good!  I walked more on this run than the first one but was still able to run most of it!

Finished this run in 37.35 which is now my time to beat at my next 5K!

And I ran and was home before anyone woke up at home! Ron and girls were totally surprised when I told them!

So in less than a month, I have run TWO 5Ks.  Still don't know if I am crazy about running, still waiting on that runner's high I hear so much about, still not able turn on my iPod and go for miles, and still not refreshing but I am doing it and that's pretty darn good!

Megan's VPR coach pitch team finished their season yesterday with a cchampionship trophy!

Lipo Technologies Storm finished with a 16-0 record playing teams from Vandalia, Tipp City, and West Milton!

Megan had a tremendous year.  She mainly played first base but also played third and some outfield when needed.

Her hitting improved immensely through the course of the season.  Yesterday during the semi final game, she hit a ball up through the center and it didn't stop until it hit the fence!    As she was running, her coach sent her home, then called her back, then sent  her home again.  By that time the momentum was gone and she was tagged out at home.  Never the less it was a fantastic hit.  She had several more that didn't go as far but went pretty far!

A little down time playing catch in the rain!

Overwhelmed

I was back on track with updating the blog, until softball started!

We have had some sort of softball related activity 24 of the past 26 days.  Normally I would say I love it but for some reason I am not enjoying it so much this year.  The girls sometimes play in different locations at the same time which forces us to separate.  Thank goodness for camera's on cell phones and texting!

Highlights for May and June thus far:

• Megan turned 9 on May 21.  Her birthday party was here at the house and was a success!
• Both girls had wonderful school years!  Megan friended a boy in her class with autism.  Several teachers at Helke have told me how wonderful she is with the boy and how much she helps him. Makes my heart happy!
• Both girls received perfect attendance awards at school. 
• Emily received Top Gun, Principals list, and a few other awards.  Her first year at Morton was a great experience for her and I am so thankful!
• Megan was chosen to do Safety Patrol for 4th grade!  She is thrilled!
• Emily made the VPR 12U All-Star team.
• Megan experienced her first true disappointment in life and did not make the VPR coach pitch all star team.  It broke my heart to have to tell her and broke it even more when I saw her reaction.
• Megan is now on the all star team thanks to some girls for dropping out!
• The girls saw Taylor Swift in concert with their grandma and grandpa!

I am sure there are many more highlights that I can't remember.  Need to start writing stuff down!!!
